Put a geordie bitter single can kit on today. When should I take the original gravity reading? Before or after adding yeast?

Cheers guys

My before yeast reading = 1.028, after is 1.032. So assuming it will drop to 1.005 like the kit instructions say I should be looking at a abv of 3 - 3.6% depending on which reading you work off.

I would work with the before reading because it seems that the addition of the yeast results in a higher false reading.

As above, I take my readings before adding yeast.

Generally I wait for my airlock to stop , take another reading, I then try to leave everything another week to clear a little , take another reading to see anything changed and move onto the next step.
