Wheat Malt Shelf LIfe

Received a delivery of wheat malt last week and just noticed the expirry date is Jan 2012.
I've not used it before but that does seem like a very short shelf life to me?

Have I been palmed off with old stock or does wheat malt go bad quickly?

That is quite short :hmm:
As long as it's kept dry it should last quite a while, it'll last longer uncrushed.
Oxidation is the main problem with long term storage however lost of folk have their malt 6 months plus and their brews seem fine. Longest I've kept it was 12 months, then I tend to get rid.
