Hi,

Brewed an all grain Hoppy APA kit from Get Er Brewed on my Brew Monk yesterday (its first outing). All went OK I think but I'm wondering what's floating in my OG sample and if it's perhaps indicative of something I may have done wrong or just normal and nothing to worry about.

That's just hot or cold break material, coagulated proteins and stuff. Perfectly normal, it'll settle out during fermentation.

Thanks Steve,

I thought as much but also wondered if it might point to a problem with the mash as the temperature was a little up and down as I tried to calibrate the new Brew Monk (which turned out to be pretty accurate in the end). I missed the target gravity of 1.060 and only got 1.054 but I'm OK with that as it should still give a 5.5% beer. Hopefully efficiency will improve next time.

As a side note I decided to use the new Lallemand Kveik Voss for the first time as I want to be able to get another brew on ASAP. It took off after an hour and is currently sitting at 30 degrees and bubbling through the blow of tube like a steam train! I'd read it should suit this beer style (Hoppy APA).
If all goes well I'll cold crash Sun/Mon and keg it the middle of next week.
