Coopers mate.

A nice middle of the road kit that can be tinkered with to produce a better pint.

If you want a slightly stronger drink, short brew it. Use medium, dark or even extra dark spraymalt instead of sugar. Add freshly ground coffee to your fermenter before adding yeast, or even a couple of sticks of bashed liquorice.

There is loads you can do with kits to make them better.

I tried a Stout recently with a dark DME and added some coffee and TBH it is pretty awful. I'll give it a month to improve before chucking it.
From reading on this topic it appears better to add the coffee after primary and cold filter the coffee.
For adding sweetness use come lactose for a cream/milk type stout.

cheers for the replys, i went with the cooper's stout and added 500g of dark spray malt, 200g demerera sugar & 300g brewing sugar with a sg of 1038 hope this goes well.

hi grays, wanting to go down that road, soon i hope when funds allow, just started getting geared up, i'm going down the cheap route to start, i've got 2 33l fvs & a 32l cool box for mash tun also copper to make my wort cooler so maybe another month away will that stuff do a 5 gallon brew easy enough. read about that stout on another thread, it sounds the dog's.

Yes that set up looks like you will be able to do 5 gallon no problem. If you are wanting an oatmeal stout alemans effin oatmeal stout is what I use, however I think the recipe in the recipes section has since been improved.

Good Luck :thumb:
