As above. I'm going to make a starter for a brew that I'm going to get going, but I'm unsure of what size to make it. What I want to do is split the yeast into 2, using some for the brew and keeping the rest for later.

What I'm unsure of is what size of starter to make. I'm guessing that around 1.030 is a good SG for culturing the yeast, but what sort of volume should I be aiming for?

Thanks

hi Scott you want to aim for around 1040 for a starter and around 1 to 1.5l is what you want , some types of beer require big starters some want small ones it depends on if you want to stress the yeast in most cases you don't so big starters are best.

Excellent, cheers mate. So if I aim for 1040 and make a 2L starter, I should be able to split that down to 1L per 5 gallon batch?
