What size mash tun do i need for a 23L brew?

Hi I am about to take the leap over to the darkside. i have all the equipment i need(i think) apart from a mash tun, I want to brew 23L does the capacity of my mash tun need to be 23L as well or can it be less? Sorry if this is a question with an obvious answer but i dont wanna get anything wrong with my First AG. Any advice or sugestions would be good cheers!!

I would have said mash tun of equal size to your brew kettle would be idea as it allows you to do thinner mashes if you want. :thumb:

Also if you need to be doing any calculations similar to this I would recommend you download BeerSmith: http://www.beersmith.com/ It has a great trial version, that you can use forever for free.
It is great for doing calculations and if you enter your grain bill for the next recipe you do it should give you a mash volume. From this you would be able to buy a mash tun accordingly. :cheers:
 
Grain bill for a 5% beer is about 4.5Kg of grain . . . adding 2.5L per kilo gives 11.5L of water . . . so about 15L should allow you to produce a 23L of a session beer . . . you might want to get one a bit bigger to allow for room to stir and to sparge . . . I have a 24L tun for my 20L system which allows me to batch sparge if I so desire.
