My local micro can sell me 25kg sacks of malt at a reasonable price (considering I wouldn't pay postage) so I'm tempted. What size of those blue chutney type barrels would I need for a sack - 60 or 120L?
60l would suffice as grain will take up twice the space of liquid when dry.My local micro can sell me 25kg sacks of malt at a reasonable price (considering I wouldn't pay postage) so I'm tempted. What size of those blue chutney type barrels would I need for a sack - 60 or 120L?
Apologies I was guesstimating based on a sack next to a 30l bucket and from what others say it looks like I'm wrong. If you open it when you do a brew with 4-5kg I reckon you will get the rest in a 30L.
I use 60s, too. You can get an unopened sack in there with proper manipulation and great risk to your fingers. If you put it on a wheely plant pot stand you can pull and push it in and out of wherever you stow it.I have a 60L blue barrel and a sack fits i there nicely. 120L would be way to big unless you want to get some specialty grains in their too
