It was a Sarah's bitter dry malt kit around 1985.

Not a bad pint if I remember correctly.

Never seen one since though.

I remember these very well. I bought several of these kits in Boots in the early and mid 80s and they did taste great. Prior to that I had used mainly the John Bull and Geordie tinned kits. The Sarah's Bitter was so much better that I then evolved to all grain brewing and have not looked back since.

The absolute first was the 20 pint kit you'd get inside the Boots Starter Kits (bin, bucket, bottles etc + a 20 pint kit to start you off) back in the late eighties. I was a regular brewer of the Boots kits then for quite a few years.

Came back to homebrewing, after an extended break, with a Woodforde's Wherry last year,

First time, in the 80s, it was a John Bull bitter kit. I remember helping my dad brew in the 70's and I think he brewed Geordie kits (it was an orange or red box with a galleon on the front unless I'm mixing this up with something else :? ). This time around it was an Edme kit (IPA I think) and I moved on to Muntons and Woodfordes kits soon after that before moving to all grain.
