What is this Vessel?

Hallo,

Can someone tell me what this vessel is, please? I found it in a flea market in Germany and got it for 20 euros. It holds about 30 litres and is either made from stainless steel, or is heavily chrome plated. The lid has an haermatic seal activated by a spring clip tightener. On the side is the word 'Roche', so it may something to do with the pharmaceutical industry?
