what different things can I prime with.

Almost at that stage for my first brew. For which I will use just pain old sugar.

Next on the agenda is a porter.
Will different priming agents affect the yeast /taste.

Can I prime with something like treacle

I used a Raspberry Syrup (available from Tesco in the eastern European section) to prime my Comedy of Errors and that worked well. Gave a fruity back note.

A fella on here did an experiment not that long ago with a number different priming sugars from silver spoon through to treacle and honey. Worth a search.
