I just recieved a delivery of this malt extract (just over 3 kg)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Suma-Malt-Extra ... lt+extract.

I was planning on adding it to a few beer kits I've got but now its arrived was thinking maybe I could put it better use. I have all the enthusiam for brewing just dont have time to do much beyond basic kits. I Was thinking along the lines of adding a strong hop tea or something to it. Any suggestions of something simple I could do with it or is plan A (adding to kits) the best option?

have you got any bits in stock? hops?

No but my LHB store is about 10 minutes away when I need it. Seems very well stocked too (though I've nothing to compare it too).
Only things I've got in at the moment is some chocolate malt, a load of different fermentables (golden syrup, black treacle, maple syrup) flavourings- Vanilla, caramel and hazelnut syrups and chocolate and Vanilla extract. And a whole bunch of fruit juices.

I really need to pick up some hops to have in stock next time.

Ok what about a stout. With the chocolate malt with some vanilla. Or a single hop light ale
Im sure the brew Gods will be along with some better ideas before long

Is it liquid or dry?
I'm guessing it's probably dried so 3.18kg would make a good strong brew in 23l of wort.
I'd be tempted to make an American Pale Ale by dissolving most of the extract in hot water and boiling as much as I dared in my biggest pan. Buy 100g of an American hop like citra, cascade, magnum etc. Boil 20g for 60 minutes, 20g for 15 and add 30g at flameout for a 20 minute steep. Strain the hops through a colinder or seive and wash the flavour out with hot water. Top up to volume and allow to cool to 18-20C, then pitch the yeast. I tend to use nottingham but you could use a more expensive american yeast. Add the remaining 30g of hops dry after 10 days. Leave to ferment for 14 days, making sure it's finished. Then bottle.
Easy :thumb:

I reckon I'm gonna get myself some of this to have a "mess about" with hopping and stuff.

Yes ,definitely worth a try , from the reviews the only problem is that the lids sometimes come off in transit ,but Amazon guarantee replacement or refund.
I've quite a stock of LME at the moment ,but as soon as my stocks are lower.... :drink:

Mine came fine even though it was delivered by Yodel. Unless theyve changed design its hard to see how the lids came off unless someone threw them at the walll and it wasnt packed in the box very well.

For info its somewhere between a medium and a dark malt extract.

I've broke mine down into bottles going to make a beer with one with some hops and add the rest to a coopers stout kit I've got to make a chocolate stout . Hoping it will give it a nice chocolate brown hint to the colour and give more body like most chocolate stouts have.
