So two of our four beers which we made for the Christmas period are now ready.

On the left is Jim’s cold brew coffee stout, and on the right my English Pale Ale.

I am super impressed with them both to be honest. Mine hasn’t cleared yet and the first pour was very fizzy, but the second one wasn’t. Must’ve been the glass I put it in I guess (different glass the second time).

Please excuse the mess - son and girlfriend are doing a buffet for themselves. We are having one for the family on Christmas Eve as is tradition in our house (which the girlfriend can’t make so hence they’re having an extra one today).

I would almost certainly say that whilst this beer might be the official beer of the viking kings, it probably wouldn't be there favourite.

50:50 CES P ALE
Later will be Kiwi Sav blanc with a Thai Green chilli.
Our own chilli's.
Despite a rubbish Summer, the little greenhouse was great this year for chilli's, aubergines and green peppers.

Tonight’s beer 52 offering is white hags Christmas ale. A red ale with honey cinnamon and orange peel. And I can taste all 3. Lovely beer.

Cracked open a Love Brewing Goose IPA, bottled last Saturday. A lot darker than the previous brew but the flavour of the hops, Simcoe, I find really pleasurable.

This part grain part extract bitter looks better than it tastes. Too good to chuck but not good enough to expend alcohol units on so I pour the first half and ditch the second. Good old British compromise!

A Karhu Spelti IPA. I presume spelti, is spelt... this is ok, quite hoppy, mildly bitter.

It's probably better than most kits but there is a slight off taste which might be due to the crystal malt being steeped a bit hot but the plus side is I am aspiring to perfection!

We have friends round tonight so you won’t be hearing much if anything from me. The first two arrived from Portsmouth a short while ago and we’ve already got through about 3 pints of mulled wine, several pints of stout and a couple of pints of Trappist ale. Another couple of friends are due shortly. God help us!

Opened this Malbec last night to ahh let it breathe (fell asleep before having a glass) and it’s much better for it. Some salmon fish cakes to help it along. Then might visit some vintage port and cheese.
