Not really a brewing type question - however just noticed this happening today.
Pics are of an upstairs planter - old window frame which i use for mixed salad and lettuce to grow during summer - upstairs on roof next to my BBQ which is handy for picking once they grow.
A while back when AG#2 was finished i filled up the planter with the waste grist and then layered another layer of soil on top - reasoning the grist would break down and fertilise the crop.
Then a few days ago i rinsed out some fv's i had been using for 25ltr of Loquat wine and tipped all the rinsed yeast slurry into it as well - now a week later heres the result!! lol
Am i growing my own yeast here?? It has a creamy texture too - at first i thought it was a fungus but not sure - anyone ever seen this at all??

That is most certainly a fungus of some kind . . . doesn't look like its yeast based as yeast doesn't form a mat with mycelia that way . . . Get all sorts of things growing on spent grain in/on soil, which is why its a good idea to spread it thin and work it in rather than leaving it as a solid layer.

Yeah it could be fungus just a bit weird as it only appeared after i chucked on the yeast slurry - it gets watered twice a day here as it dries out in the heat - 35c plus this week.
