Used Thames Valley 2 from brewlabs in my latest brew, has a weird smell to it in my fridge, dont know what it is but it smells nothing like the previous brews with SA-04 and Nottingham. It has a good head on it and the fermentation has nearly stopped after 7 days. Hardly a bubble in 5 minutes.

Its hard to describe the smell, as its really weird.

Anyone know what it could be?

What does it smell like?

The 2 times I have used this yeast were in "strong milds" and the smell was a bit like licorice. Have you had a taste?

The Thames Valley yeasts can cast off a sulphury smell - is it anything like that?

Is it an unexpected smell? Banana? pear drops?

its more like a rotten eggy sort of smell, maybe a bit of a sulphur smell like you say though. The yeats looks healthy on top of the FV though. Maybe i am just being paranoid.

I READ FRIDGE, IF THE WORT IS A LITTLE TOO COLD WITH A FULL BATCH OF YEAST IN IT, THE YEAST COULD BE STRESSED AND THROWING OFF SULPHUR.

EITHER THAT OR SULPHUR CAN INDICATE BACTERIAL INFECTION.

I'll stop shouting now

The fridge is set to 19.6C, It wouldnt surprise me about an infection, i made the starter about a week and half before i pitched it as i didnt have time before.

I will just have to wait and see, its been over a week now so will give it another week and try it. what sort of taste will i get if it has a bacterial infection?

There are a few symptoms but the main one would be acetobacter which will leave you with a horrible chemically vinegar type product.

Just give it a few more days - things will settle down.
