Having not brewed my own for 35 years , I could do with a bit of advice !Ive read homebrewers talking about using bottled water to brew. Im starting off with a Brewferm kit ( Summer Ale , Limited edition ) Having only ever used tapoline in the distant past , Id like to know if its ok to use bottled water for these type of kits and is it ok to heat it as required in the method ?

Welcome : I use tap water but my local water is very soft.

I think tap water is generally fine for kits, maybe with a crushed campden tab, if you have them, to remove chloramine :thumb:

It depends on your tap water. The most important thing is the water alkalinity. That will have the most profound effect on the beer quality and taste. In general, the alkalinity should be low for most brewing use. The water company may have some information on the water parameters. These are commonly known as Secondary Parameters since they don't deal with contaminants or health-affecting issues. You can also have the water tested by Murphy's.

Bottled water is no guarantee that it will be better for brewing either. You need to know what is in that water too.
