2 questions regarding water :?:

At the moment I boil all my water before using it in the brew so as to clean it and get rid of the chlorine (it takes ages using my biggest pot of about 5ltr and a kettle). If I use a campden tablet can i stop boiling it?

Secondly should I wait a certain amount of time between adding the campden and adding the wort and yeast?

If you set up your HLT the night before and add on campden tablet per 5 gallons You wont go far wrong. It needs to be left over night to get rid of the Chlorine and Chloramides. Chlorine naturally dissipates out of the water and the Chloramides are treated with the Campden Tablet I think.

I was under the impression that CT's worked almost instantly in getting rid of Chlorine and Chloramine, and the dosing for this was 1 tablet per 20l...Is this not the case? :hmm:

Pretty much instantly . . . Add the CT to teh bucket . . . fill the bucket . . . give it a stir . . . job done.

Chlorine will not dissipate overnight .. . it needs boiling or neutralising before use

If your water is potable . . .i.e. Safe to drink, then it is safe for use in making beer, and does not require boiling to make it 'clean'

So am I right in thinking that inorder to remove the nasty chlorine taste from my water I need to boil it. And having boiled it there is no point in me using a CT?
