£588 water rates for me, small 2/3 bed bungalow......I'll never understand why the water rate is calculated off council rate banding taking no account of occupants. Both Council tax and water rates now way over 2K and that's living in the sticks........ grossly unfair.

Wendy, i would not stick in a water meter, i think you will regret it in the end, you'll become very wary of every drop of water your using, as its money in the end, i personally think your better on what your on, judging by what others pay, including myself, would love to have your water bill!!
Keep the rates!!

Best way to get cheap water is to move to Ireland, have a read of this article to understand why all of your water bills are so high. £80 a year for water sounds pretty good to me, just a shame we're not all treated equally

After saying our water bill was
£250 i was looking at the wrong bill its £583 PER YEAR   yorkshire water are coming out to fit a water meter wich will cost £350 a year Much better :thumb:

Nah, they always fit them free. I got mine done by Thames when we moved into the new house. They managed to break my (already broken ;) ) stopcock so they replaced that while they were there for nowt.

All it cost me was a couple of rounds of tea for the fitters. :thumb:

Nightmare peeps. Here in turkey we are all on meters as its one of the only ways to get the buggers to cough up anything without avoidance or lying about things.
Same with petrol, gas and electric all seen 25% rises in the last 6 months with more to follow. Petrol almost £2 per litre now.
However my water bill and combined TV tax was only £2.55 for 2 months.

No we will pay 28.00 a month instead of 45.00 we explained we brew too and it still works out alot cheaper in the long run :D Oh and its FREE

I always wondered why you see loads of Turks armed with dozens of plastic water containers queuing at 'public' taps in the hills . . . All is suddenly made clear

lol - i live on my own, shower every day, washing machine twice a week (no dishwasher), and my bill £420 a year - Welsh Water meter !!!

Holy cr@p that seems expensive for free wet stuff! We dont pay for water specifically in Ireland, although we do pay for it through rates, ours are about £700 per year. I'd laugh if I got a bill for water

Brewing doesn't add much to your water consumption at all...

I agree, but unfortunately filling my 23x13x6ft deep pond does, and I'm on a meter :( :( :(

ours is £21 a month metered on a direct debit, still £15 in credit with Anglia Water,

they tried to put it to £26 last year we said no, and we are still in credit at £21 a month

did you know that if your gutter down pipe/rainwater goes into a soak away and not into the drainage system
you are entitled to a reduction on your water rates, well we are

£160 a year on the meter.

Its about 0.026p a litre including sewage rates which is ludicrously cheap for a more or less unlimited supply of clean fresh water and essential sanitation.
