my vinebrite doesnt seem to be clearing my wine it actually looks cloudier, i cant suck wine to syhon thro the vent i hav to hlod outake n sck hard to start it off, the wine doest come up vent so guessing its a pressure problem ,,but the the inside is screwed tight with key,,any suggestions

I had a similar problem in which the wine wasn't coming up the vent and was barely coming through the filter, try bending the vent pipe towards the floor then it should fill with wine and quickly close the tap before losing any, it worked for me. Good luck :thumb:

thanks, but mines flowing through filter,,, are there any other decnt filters on the market

I don't know of others, I just use the Vinbrite, never had any bother but I'm sure someone on here will recommend something. Hope you get sorted.

You can't suck wine through the vent... Try starting the syphoning process by sucking the tube and then attaching it to the filter. Also ensure that the receiving vessel is much lower than the one that you are syphoning from.

Well for starters the Vinbrite isn't for clearing your wine, for that you need patience or finings.

Filtration is an optional extra step to take your wines from clear to crystal clear, or bright to starbright, it isn't a shortcut and if your wine isn't properly cleared your filter pad will rapidly clog up and you'll be lucky to get one gallon through it. I work mostly in 15 litre batches and expect to get 30-45 litres (7-10 gallons) through one pad.

A syphon tube clamp is very useful and should only cost around a quid. Place this about 2 inches from the bottom of the syphon tube, suck the wine through the tube and close the clamp. You can then attach the syphon tube to the filter body. Alternatively, suck the wine through the tube and then fold the bottom end back on itself to block the flow while you attach it. Then allow wine to flow and open the vent tap to expel all air from the filter body.

The inner ring does need to be screwed tight, but throw the spanner away and use your hands.

ive seen on forums in usa abt home made filters using a pump and water cannister filter [1 micron ], any one tried this

i think ive answered my own question here coz i think ive solved the problem, as a marine fish keeper i had a spare d\d diagphram pump..[ebay] and a canister clear housing wiith a 1 micron filter [ebay] i attached this up and sucked the wine through the pump through the filter housing then through my vinebrite, the problem then , was wine left in the housing, when demijohn emptied, i then turned the housing upside down and blocked the suction feed with a nonreturn valve [ebay]creating a little vacuum . this dispelled the wine from housing through the vinebrite filter .now wine is clear as a bell
