I have bought a 500g bag of Vienna malt to use in my next brew. Wondering how much to use alongside 5kg Maris for a 23 litre batch?
 
Cheers clibit change of plan though. I said "bought" in the op, should have said buying as I just rang my lhbs and he just sold the last bag dangit!! :(

Ah well I have a small amount of crystal I can chuck in or just go straight M.O. Not sure yet.... :hmm:Its going to be hopped with Mosaic so will have a think.
 
What does Vienna add? In fact if anyone has a good guide to what different malts add to the finished beer I would find that helpful. So far I've used a few other than MO, (carafa, chocolate, caramalt) but its still an area I don't have much appreciation of.

I've got wheelers and Greg hughes book but they don't go into much detail on what malts add.
 
My first all grain was the Galaxy Delight kit from Malt Miller and that used Vienna. The malt profile in the finished beer was lovely. Since then my next 4 brews have been either straight MO or MO and crystal and they have slightly lacked that flavour that my first one had.
From what I have read it adds a "biscuity" flavour but again my justification for wanting to use it comes from the flavour profile of my first all grain brew rather than anything I have read....
