Good afternoon all!

Having come back to homebrew after a 6ish year gap, i have noticed a few things have changed.

Starsan and not sucking the syphon tube being just 2!

On the note of sanitisers, I use VWP and oxi to clean, and then VWP to sanitise. But i did start using Videne to sanitise but all i can remember is when it fades its no good.

Forum searches have reminded me how to use, thank you!

The almost full bottle has been living under my sink for all of these years, does anybody think it is still good to use? Its still a dark iodine colour, and smells chemical
Date of man - 01/2010
Exp. - 12/2011

I'm a bit lax when it comes to expiration dates, but a 2nd opinion would help...

Thanks in advance

Gail

Never heard of Videne so can't help you there, but can vouch for starsan - it's great value and the lack of rinsing is makes sanitising a hassle free job.

Welcome back to the hobby!

Unlikely that it will be contaminated by Bacteria given what it is, a medicinal antiseptic, it's the brown stuff they paint on your skin just before they cut you open in hospital
It's an iodine compound and they will be obliged to put a shelf life on it. In solid form inorganic compounds may be very stable but in solution may decay over time however I would suggest that instead of 100% it may now only be 90% and the dilution is so great that it will make little difference to what we use it for. I have had my bottle for 2-3 years and don't get any problems, only £3.50 when I bought it!.

Thanks for the replies!

So, after doing my first AG (7.5 lit) last night, i stuck with VWP.

I hit OG of 1.045 so i am pretty chuffed!! Running a restaurant helps, so big pans, big sieve, boiling water on tap, big stove and a plate warming cupboard.

Videne as a spare, will buy starsan when i do a grain order
