So how long can i get away with leaving the home brew in the FV as iv got one in the keg now so my FV is empty i would love another keg but can not afford another one yet so was wanting to have anothe one fermenting could you get away with say one or two months in the FV or is this just to long??

I think you can leave it two months though I've never tried myself.

My understanding is that the yeast will start to feed off other parts of the trub, thus creating other flavours. These flavours may improve your beer or make it taste worse. However, I don't think it will cause any harm.

If you can chill it down then that would be better. Moving to a secondary would be better.. or buy some more kegs

I always do 2 weeks in primary fv and the transfer to a secondary fv for another 2 weeks and never had a problem

If you can rack it off the main trub and into a secondary vessel you can then leave it for 3-4 weeks, plus the 2 weeks in primary, thats as long as I would like to leave a brew without taking extra precautions.
Get yourself some cornies ! As well as force carbonating beers they are very good for storing fermented beer under a bit of CO2 until your ready for it.

bit expensive tho.....

That sounds like harm to me!

Haha fair point! I suppose I meant it probably won't make anyone violently sick. It's up to the OP whether it's worth the risk.
Personally I'd just wait till I had a free keg/secondary FV.

Oh my good his beer is in VF, any doctors in the house........................

Stand Clear

Shocking

Your beer is back in Sinus rhythm

Joking aside I personally wouldn't leave a beer in a secondary or an FV for that length of time especially not at this time of year with fruit flys on the rampage. Personally I would want to get it under the protection of a cask or bottle with a couple of weeks of fermentation.

Im going to have to bite the bullet and get another FV i guess thanks for the offer tho so what dose placing the brew in another FV for two to 4 weeks do for the brew iv not heard of this being a newbie iv gone strate from prim pv to keg is this going to be ok or have i missed a step out???

Going from primary to keg is fine. However getting it into a secondary fore a week or so can help minimise infection as you get the beer off the yeast and any dried on crud on the sides of the fv. Also because a lot of the yeast is removed it means less or non is transfered during kegging.

However we seem to be a divided forum on this subject so be warned an argument might now ensue.
