Looks like nice recipe there Varnish. Are you adding vanilla beans or extract? I remember some recipes asking for vanilla to be added at secondary or just prior to bottling. Interested in how this one turns out.
Good luck with the brew :thumb:

I'm undecided.
I like the idea of the beans. But using extract will be much cheaper and it'll easier to get a correct dosage.
Still don't know yet. Unless anyone has any experience or advice(?) I'll probably go for a good quality extract.

I think I'm going to miss the 23 Litres I was aiming for.
Never mind.

Hops. Goldings on top, Fuggles bottom.

First lot of hops added.

Boiling away nicely.

More Hops, and wort chiller added.

Came up a little short, as I thought.

Nice relaxed brew though.

I bought the most expensive vanilla extract I could find and added 1.5ml per litre.

(Need the right tools for the job).

Racked it to corny, and charged with CO2
Then used the corny tap to fill a few bottles.

I'm very happy with it. Considering it's only a week old it tastes pretty good.

I managed to get a 70/30 N2/CO2 gas bottle from Andover patio centre for the same price as one of those widget world bottles. I already had a argon regulator for welding so I'll use that with and old PSI gauge (The welding regulator is in Litres per min) and charge to about 30 psi. Which means no messing about getting a soda stream adaptor from Australia :thumb:

Should give me some good head when I get the stout tap.
