Hi guys.

My local HB supplies shop had brewferms Christmas beer at 50% off today, so I bought two.

I'm thinking of using both cans in one brew and not not adding any sugar.

Any thoughts?

Sounds good . What shop did you get them from ? That kit got me into home brew after I tasted it around a friends house!

They're called Farm and Household and based in Inverness. They aren't a dedicated homebrew store, more like all the wee bits and pieces that you can't find anywhere else type of store. Usually very expensive but still cheaper than Highland postage rates. Got the two cans for under £15 so to good to turn down (I only went in for tannin and yeast).

Do you think the flavour from the two cans will be over powering? I'm not worried about strength (the cans say 7.5% but without sugar that may come down) more worried about intense flavour making it undrinkable for guests.

What you going to brew too? 23lt or 12lt? I would two tins 1kg sugar brew too 20lt .

Brewferm kits really really don't need extra malt as a substitute for sugar. Christmas beers are quite sweet anyway so increasing the maltiness may make it like drinking a glass of treacle.

I'd just double up the batch if it's a 9l kit but make sure you have enough headspace. Either that or do 2 separate batches and try something slightly different with each, like different kinds of sugar or yeast to see how it goes.

Just as well I posted here before getting stuck in with my misplaced bravado.

Had a read of the instructions and now I realise they don't suggest adding sugar and its a 7 litre kit as opposed to the 23L I'm used too.

Just going to follow the instructions on this one.

If I use the cans to make a 14l batch, should I use both yeast sachets?

Yes, you'll need more yeast
