Hi Guys
I am completely new to all this, did my first brew (kit) a few weeks ago and poured it direct from the barrel tap
On my home bar I have an Angram hand pump which is reconditioned but I have never used it.
How would I go about dispensing my home brew through the pump?
Will it simply draw from the barrel when I pump or will I need to drive it with CO2.
Would a Corny keg be more appropriate?
The CO2 regulator has no guage and is preset to 22psi, I use this for my lager pump. Could this be used?
Thanks in advance!

I too am interested to know this. I may be in a position to pick up some pumps rather cheaply soon :-)

I use a hand pump for my house beer, usually a 3.5 to 4% pale ale.
You do not add co2 under pressure, normal the barrel sucks in air as the beer is drawn.
To keep beer fresher longer I made a baloon with a co2 valve which I plumber into the barrel. The baloon fills with co2 from the priming and I top up with a small bottle.
So when I pull a pint it draws in co2 not air

I've been doing a bit of reading, is it essential to use a 'check' valve on the line, some sites say that without it the beer will do one of two things - either flow back into the barrel or once pulled will continue to drain from the pump?

Those are great ideas guys - wouldnt mind a few close ups of the delivery and dispense systems. I.e. what type of valve is used and some pics please.
It may well be a way for me over here to dispense beer properly without the need to try tp import cornies and regs etc CO2 i'm pretty sure i can get hold of - but cornies?
