Hi,

New to this, coming from having done a single wherry kit, but looking at extract brewing as a stepping stone to AG, so go on easy on me, please!

However, on the instructions to an immersion chiller I saw the following:

"Please note it is important to have run off the wort .... before using this wort chiller otherwise you will put all the proteins, coagulated during the "hot break", back into solution."

But looking at the methods on here it seems normal to cool the wort in the boiler.

Is it an issue to cool in the boiler? :wha:

Cheers

Hi and welcome to the forum Oz.

In an AG brew I cool in the boiler, the spent hops then act as a filter catching the break material

:wha: :wha: Iv never heard of this befor & allways cool in the boiler & the crash cooling causes further precipetation during the "cold break" & as sean rightly says the hops filter out the trub.

If you immerse your chiller 15 mins before the end of your boil it will sterilise the chiller then connect to cold tap. After your boil is done run the cold water thru the chiller till pitching temp is reached
