So, having one of those mornings when you just want peace to brew and keep getting interruptions 😒
In the middle of chilling my wort and realised that I hadn’t added my Irish moss to the boil 🙈
Options please…
Tia.

Does Irish moss need to be boiled? If not, it could theoretically be chucked in, but you may want to sanitise/pasteurize it.

You could always take a small amount of wort out, boil it for a few minutes with Irish moss added, then chill again.

Yeah needs the boil to get it working.

Has to be boiled for 15 min to help coagulation of protein
U could try a re rack and a cold crash should be just as effective
Sorry, could explain the re rack and cold crash in a bit more detail please.
Thanks

Re rack would be transferring the the beer to another bucket when just finished fermentation for a day or two it reduces sediment in bottles and helps to clear quicker
Cold crashing is chilling the bucket of beer to near freezing it also helps to clear beer very well

I would just go with it it will take slightly longer to clear but you could also add gelatine at the end of fermentation if it bothers you or call it hazy if you have to:laugh8:

No danger or oxidisiation with the re rack? Already cold regularly. Cheers

😆 was already thinking of redefining as a hazy IPA 😉

I’ll bet that’s something we’ve all done at some time. As has been said, just give it extra time. Patience is a virtue etc.

I never used Irish moss for the first 5 brews I did since going AG and they never failed to clear within a week or 2.
I use Irish moss now but I can’t in all honesty tell you that it’s made a difference to the speed of clearing the beer in the bottle.

Same here, its one of those things I add if I remember.
I've currently run out though, but it's not something I would order from the hbs specially. I will wait for my next big order and get some.

As others have said, it makes only a small difference to the clarity and an extra week will more than make up for not adding any.
