I batch primed my two batches of cider and my betterbrew ipa nearly four weeks ago.

Dissolved sugar in water, added to bin, syphoned cider and ale onto the sugar. At different times of course, did one after another.

But ive tried two of my ciders now and the first was mega fizzy, the other was not.

Do people give a final stir once the bottling bucket is full, just before bottling? Or am i just unlucky?

I tend to add the syrup to the beer not the other way round as the syrup is heavier than the beer, so sinks , but it still needs a good non splashing stir from top to bottom as well. :thumb:

I did one with a stir and one without with pretty similar results.

I found that laying the end of the siphon on it's side on the bottom of the secondary FV created a sort of swirling effect as the beer was leaving the siphon. It kept swirling all the way to the end. Mixed it up pretty well!

+1 for good runny solution - I do around 100g sugar to 500ml water, boil it a few minutes then drop it in to a PB for bottling.
+1 for the syphon tube angled for maximum swirl as well - in a round bucket or barrel you can get the whole mass of beer mixing beautifully

I used to not stir and also use minimum water and had the same problems. Now I use 500ml of water and a good stir and haven't had a problem since.
