So what?
It's the future of a country, a people and a culture that we're talking about here.
Johnny foreigner has no business having a say in the future of a nation.
It'd be hypocritical of a nation that once had an empire and is currently part of the commonwealth.

As an Irish man this really made me giggle.
This was basic British foreign policy till the Suez crisis.

Anyway Brexit will be grand. Only took ye months to sort out (kind of) the Irish border issue.

Thing is, those commonwealth countries that were once part of he empire are now independent nations. The deal with being an independent nation is that it and it's citizens get to decide on it's fate - and nobody else gets to influence it, even if they are foreigners that reside there.

May has been a spectacularly ineffective PM. There should have been ongoing discussions with all interested parties on the Irish border issue from July of 2016 but she just sat on it, pretending it wasn't an issue.

There seems to have been no preperation at all from any party on the Pro-Brexit side.

You'd almost think they never expected to win :)

That doesn't take away from the hypocrisy. Last time I checked, all commonwealth countries are bound by the same political principles and human rights, so not totally independent.

Because immigrants contribute a lot to the economy and culture of Britain. It's ridiculous they pay the same taxes as nationals, lead the same lives but don't get a vote on the direction of the country they have invested in.

30 seconds on Google:
"The democratic system in India is based on the principle of universal adult suffrage; that any citizen over the age of 18 can vote in an election".

In the USA, "Since 1996, a federal law has prohibited non-citizens from voting in federal elections, punishing them by fines, imprisonment, inadmissibility".

"To vote in a Canadian federal election you must be: A Canadian citizen (Temporary and permanent residents cannot vote); 18 years old or older on election day".

Jamaica seems to be about the only commonwealth country that allows non-citizens to vote. They permit a vote to commonwealth citizens who have been resident for the preceding 12 months.

Are you sure you're not conflating nationality with ethnicity here?

The USA?

"once had an empire".
The USA was once a British colony was it not?
Sorry, I thought you were responding to my last post regarding commonwealth countries, given that you quoted it at the top of your post. Silly me.

No the USA was not or never has been part of the British Empire or a colony, although some colonies were on the east coast of the continent at one point.

You don't want to attack people that you disagree with on a personal level and than call people that you disagree with a bunch of crooks.

I said I can have a difference of political opinion without holding a personal grudge against the person with a differing opinion.

I also said that UKIP MEPs took public money in order to do a job they had no intention of doing, and that makes them a bunch of crooks.

Those two statements are in no way contradictory. I didn't call them a bunch of crooks because I disagreed with them, I called them a bunch crooks because they are a bunch of crooks.

Surprised the mods haven't taken this down. I come here to have a nice mature discussion over IBUs and the best way to sparge not to go UKIP-baiting.

What I will say though is I found it funny to see Labour being accused as being unelectable despite having a fully costed manifesto by someone supporting a party that don't even have a manifesto at all.

*Sigh*. It's the Snug, a place where things get talked about as in a real snug / tap room. There are areas which do indeed explore IBUs and sparging, stuff like that. You can generally identify them by the headings and which subdivision they appear under.

That manifesto was found to be a work fantasy before the last election.
Also it's only the Snug where people talk politics so if you don't visit this section, all you will find is beer talk.
Bit like walking into a brothel and complaining about people having sex all over the place.

Gunge and Saisonator have summed it up which only leaves this for me to say -

I take it you didn't read the forum description!
