I'm looking for some tips. I want more beer produced per brewday, I only have space for one fridge and its rigged for temp control . I can make 10 gallons. But Both fermentors won't fit in. SO! If I had excellent sanitation would a glass fermentor of wort keep a week before yeast being pitched. Obviously i need somewhere cool. But I have no other fridges to properly chill it. Has anyone had experience? Or is this dumb and not worth the risk!

personally wouldn't risk it - one gets the fridge, the other doesn't - you'll be able to compare the two then :thumb:

Pitch your yeast and cover the FV with a wet tee shirt (so it 'wears' it). Have the bottom of the tee shirt in some water (e.g. the whole thing in a large bowl or tin bath) and the evaporation and constant wicking from the tee shirt will reduce your temperature by around 5C.

If you need to lower it a bit further, position a fan or cold air blower so that it blows onto the tee shirt.

It really does work.

Alternatively you can keep swapping the FVs in and out of the fridge every 12 hours or so. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

yeah thanks for the ideas guys, i think your right, its not worth ruining a batch, im just so short of time, i find my beer isnt lasting...... maybe im drinking too much  . i might try and find out a bit more about high gravity ferment and then dilution, ni have a feeling that wont work for ale though :wha:

hot wort can be no-chilled...

you put the near boiling wort into a plastic jerry can,
then seal it until you ready to use it...ie weeks later,
the hot wort sterilizes the jerry can and once the lid is on no air or nasties can get in, they use it in hot countries with the biab method :thumb:

Unless Sittingbourne has moved I would expect the ambient temp to be fine for fermenting without a fridge, so just leave one out of the fridge or swap every 24 hours or so as previously suggested.

Now that is definitely worth knowing!
