My next brew will be this recipeview.php?recipe_id=406

A traditional style best bitter

Not sure on the end brew length but i'm not bothered, but will use measures as per recipe

What i intend to do is make a 50/50 split ish of the boiled wort in to two brews.

One intended 3.7-3.9 the other 4.5-4.7

I know some breweries do this..

Has any body done this and what was the out come...

Probably another stupid question here but how do you intend to change the abv of the too batches?

stop the ferment of one early with chemicals, and leave more unfermented sugar?

the initial run off either fly or batch sparging is much higher gravity, so for a 80L brew length collecting 10L of 1070 then the rest and splitting it two ways 40L and 30 L of 1037 say then add the 10L to the 30L to get 40L of 1045. Is one way.

but he says he intends to split the boiled wort not the mash. doesnt this mean after hes BOILED the hops in too.

so to change length hes effectively watering down after the boil???

i think i'm probably making something simple complicated here.

:hmm:

This exactly what i intend to do....

Boil with hops then take the high gravity wort and dilute with treated water to make one brew @ 1038 and another @ 1045 ish... :thumb:

So it begins..

22kg Pale malt
1kg Flaked Barley
1kg Crystal
140 Chocolate

200g Challenger 90 mins
40g EKG 15 mins
40g Willamette 15 mins

Water treatment
3 X Wirlfloc
SO4

When i've done the boil i will divide the wort into two FV in differnt proportions to make 1 brew at 1038 and the other at 1045 ish it all depends how strong the gyle is..
The divided wort will be diluted with pretreated water.

The target is 50 litres of each brew :D

Well.. a good brew day was had..

Ending result was one brew at 1036 the other at 1048 so good seperation between brews :thumb:
Will keep you posted on the out come
