Regarding the turbo yeast, could anyone tell me if it really does work faster than ordinary yeast?

Its used for very high alcohol fermentation. Usually in turbo stills and not recomended for beers / lagers or wines as far as I know. Hope this helps as thats about all I know on the stuff.

I also asked this question at a HBS and she said it not to use it on its own was for stills only. Use only the high alcohol yeasts that specify you can ferment then add a flavour eg Whisky, White Rum etc Perhaps it produces some nasty alcohols that can only be boiled off in the controlled environment of a still. Don't know facts though, you'll have to research or get someone else to answer this post.

Good luck :thumb:

Yes it does (by fermenting at a much higher temperature too), and to a much higher alcohol concentration than beer / wine yeasts . . . . BUT (and its a big but ) the next step is to add powdered activated charcoal to the 'liquor' to remove all the horrible nasty flavours that it produces while doing so . . . this produces a colourless tasteless highly alcoholic liquid that you add flavouring packs to to simulate the spirit/liquer of your choice . . . it is not a suitable yeast for replacing with beer or wine at all
