Know what I'm doing with beer and quite a bit of experience with wine, but this cider thing is new to me, but had to give it a go.
Started two 5 litre brews using different juices, 7 days ago, one looks like something produced by a cart horse and the other a bit more lady like. Both plopping once every 4 second or so, not done a hydrometer reading yet.
Idea is to produce something "nice" for the "ladies", as a summer drink. (According to M, they don't stay that way after drinking TC. let it be true,
Anyway back to reality, my eventual plan is to ferment a 25 litre batch right down and sweeten to taste, with more juice and then carb up in a cornie, does anyone see a problem with the plan ?
Meanwhile I am keen to produce some bottled stuff, for mobility purposes you understand. So are there any recommended SG to achieve at bottling time, that will not ferment to become dangerous, exploding bottles that is.

P.S. Top tip, buy in your apple juice quick before Mr. Darling has it taken off the shelves.

You've got the right idea Springer!
Bottle or keg, just fully ferment out, recomend sweetening with "Candela", and add your priming sugar.
Wait until clear, could be 2-3 weeks.
Initially you won't need any gas in the keg.

The latest batch I made was 27lt of AJ with 250grms sugar in the FB - this gave about 6-7%
Then primed with 100grm sugar and 4lts of AJ, sweetened with 20 teaspoons of Splenda.

Kegged and surplus bottled at last weekend, test day as soon as I have a clear bottle, probs another week or so.

 CS

Thanks for the replies both, think I'm back on track now. Had forgotten the Candalar trick. i.e. this does't ferment just sweetens and then prime as usual. Used to get dangerous results with ginger beer many years ago, so stopped making it, might start again now I have a bit more idea whats going on. ;)
Have made a bit of a mistake with the TC though, got the initial gravity up to 1069, by adding sugar, thinking it will go down to a gravity similar to beer. Big mistake . ;)

Big ABV though!
To big :drunk:
I was thinking the candela would be fine for bottled stuff, with suitable priming.
As on alternative for cornies how about sweetening with juice, then killing yeast, don't know how ? and then carbing up in the cornie, could then fill bottles at a know carb level, when required?
Any thoughts ?

Just tried the brew, thats similar in colour to the stuff produced by a cart horse and its drinkable and down to 1010 (7.8% )in 13 days. just put some in the freezer for a few mins to get a better idea. ;) :)

Hi all,

just planning for a big brew of Turbo cider. Will it be okay to make a 40 pt batch as you do with a home brew kit? Took the info that Lidl have got a good bargain going. Will one packet of yeast be enough or is there some kind of calculation needed?
Picking up 12 DJs tomorrow from a freecycler (bless him!)
Got to fill it with something and as it is didge festival time in about six weeks need some good brew to take with me!

Brewed four, 5 litre batches of TC now, first two went into bottles. :D
Brews 3 and 4 started 16 days ago were just dumped into a cornie this morning and gassed up, just had a try and :D :D :D
Only problem with second option is that I will need a "drinks fridge" but very impressed.
So impressed with recommendations of TC, I am going shopping tomorrow for some goods to get into Wurzels orange, that seems worth a try if its works out like TC. ;)
As Chiefstoker said on another thread, think big with TC, I will follow the advice and apply it to Wurzels ;)

Im on my second 5L batch, as i now have a second fermenter, i feel a sneak to aldi over a couple of visits( adds to the subterfuge of cost). then 'fire up the blades' as it were.

I likes simple AND effective.
