As I am getting older and lazier I have decided to increase my brew length and to this end I have purchased THIS
I can now brew a 40l length up to about 5.5% abv which is strong enough for me
And yes I could have converted my 50L stockpot but I think I'll keep that as a support for my HLT cos I think it annoys the magpies

Whey hey, it's arrived
It's bloody huge
Watch this space to see it converted from a big bucket to a big boiler

Today She went from bucket to boiler :D

These are the parts
The BUCKET

The BALL VALVE, TANK COUPLER and 15 mm copper pipe.

The inside of the tank coupler is stepped and needs to be opened out to allow the copper pipe to pass through, it can be done with a 15mm drill in minutes or half an hour with a file ;)

Heating elements cannibalised from these

The hole for the valve was cut using a 22m wood bit, the holes for the elements were cut using a 38mm hole saw.

This is the assembly order for the valve

The difference in size between old and new :D

I will pick up a Reducing coupler tomorrow and fit my hop strainer.

I am watching with interest ...My present 10 Gall plastic boiler from Hop & Grape struggles with 51 Litres...splashes over the top. Wonder if your 60 Litre one will do the same :?
They indeed are one and the same highwayman, the 10 gallon boilers are exactly the same as the 10 gallon fermenters that H&G supply and I believe that they actually hold 60 litres.

Inaugural brew day tomorrow
40L of summer beer :)
Just need to come up with a recipe :hmm:

Had a few bottles of Summer Lightning yesterday and it was a perfect accompaniement to this fantastic weather. Better yet you can rescue the yeast from the bottles though it may be a bit late to step it up if you're planning on brewing soon. I've got no Pale Malt in so my boys went down the sink...

I'm hot on your heals Tubby. I received my 60 ltr buckets yesterday! I'm at work again now for 4 days so will have to wait to go to tesco's for the kettles. :( Looking good though!

Have you checked how much dead space you have yet? - I would have thought that it would be quite a bit with the tap being quite far off the bottom :hmm:
