@ cask is best, very true, many forums I am a member of you have to be very careful about asking a question, "use the search function" being a favourite reply to 'noobs' happily on here I (or anyone else) can ask a dumb question and not get the mickey taken :)

Talking of the search function, I was shocked the other day...

I emailed a website shop to ask for suggestions for suitable plants for my new tropical fish tank. I got a reply listing four plants (all latin names I'd never heard of being new to tropical fish keeping). I went back on to their website but despite using their search function, I couldn't find any one of the four :hmm: I therefore emailed again to ask for help finding them so I could buy them and was told "use the search function - they are all there"  - don't they want to sell anything?? - needless to say, I did not buy anything :nah:

That reminds me, I still need to find some plants - I better go and look for another shop

Martin, What plants are you looking for? Can you let me know when you find some, as I'm looking to set up a planted amazon tank . . . So while there are plenty of Amazon Swords, there is very little else, and I know there are more plants than that in the Amazon . . . . :hmm:

. . . . Although I suppose I could always set up a Black water amazon tank, with just a sand bottom . . . and run the water through peat to get that authentic dark tea colour

EB
have you tried Abyss in Stockport, I have a marine tank and always found the Abyss to be very helpful, they do stock tropical as well and are pretty good at supplying to order, might be worth a shot.
cheers

I used a chap on ebay and got some really nice stuff...

Might have been this one - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/last-trading- ... ksid=p3686

Just get a big mixed bundle, you can't really go wrong.

Until about 5 years ago I kept tropical and fresh water fish, used to be quite seriously into it with big a big tank set up of 6'x4'x3'. Mrs V1 now keeps a small tank and naturally I keep an eye on things  ...about 12 months ago she bought a couple of plants from Pets at Home, they were rooted to a piece of log and cost almost £10 each  ...you can imagine what I thought at 1st....but now I have to say I'm eating my words  as they are both doing incredibly well and have to be 'pruned' on a regular basis.
If you want to 'cheat' to achieve the tea colour you could try a piece of new bog wood hidden in the tank..should get that brown colour for up to a year or more

I spend a fortune on activated carbon to get rid of the blooming colour!!

 ...agreed...so I split the topic and it's...err here now
@piddle....that's be like having a cup of coffee...albeit a large one...permanently in your house but with fish swimming in it

Most Amazon habitats don't actually have much in the way of underwater plants. I had a set up with fine sand and bog wood which looked cool, just make sure the sand is inert!

The Green Machine near Wrexham have a very impressive shop and website. Very helpful if you call/email, there a bit more expensive but you at least get plants that grow not just turn into mush! Check out pics on google by Takeshi Amano for really stunning planted tanks. T

how odd, im also a bit of a fishkeeper, had a great time raising and breeding some kribensis (kinda lost count when the generations started to merge) and was gutted when parents killed them off when i was away at uni. I cant say i ever felt the urge to spend that much on those logs at pets at home- much better to get lots of javafern off ebay and rubber band them on to watch them grow-totally tookover the tank for less than a tenner

Crikey, where did that place pop up from?

Although I'm having a laugh at their co2 prices.

These peoplehave just appeared on my Linkedin page :wha: :wha:

Didn't know you got architects that specialised in Aquariums.

There again if you are a premiership footballer with more money and time than you know what to do with, employing an aquatic architect to design you an aquarium which you can look at all day long might not be a bad idea.
