Hi all
Ive read a couple of guides on here but cant seem to work out if its worth transferring wherry to a 2nd FV to condition further or just do it to batch prime?
Any advice?

Wherry is notorious for not clearing but if you don't mind that then the cons outweigh the pros e.g greater chance of infection and oxidation.

I transfer virtually all of my beers to a secondary FV and have never once had an infection that way. Just sterlise everything properly and ensure that the hose touches the bottom of the fermenter to minimise splashing.

How long do you leave it in the second fv then? Can u still batch prime?

I suppose it depends if you bottle or keg. I always add quick clear finings (2 part process) to my cornie straight from the original fv. After pressurising at 30psi for half a day I usually find that the beer has cleared between 2 to 5 days. The remainder goes in bottles primed with half a teaspoon of sugar - after leaving these in a warm place for 3 to 4 days and then putting them in a cold garage I usually see them clear within a week. However, the bottles are best left for 3 weeks or more to ensure proper conditioning and that the yeast deposit stays at the bottom of the bottle when pouring.

I usually do 4 or 5 days in secondary and then boil up some sugar in a little water and add it to an empty fv. I then syphon the beer into the fv with the sugar solution in and then bottle from there.

I never transfer to secondary (apart from batch priming) and always have clear beer.

And those two points pretty much sum up the whole discussion. Take your pick.

That seems a bit long winded for me as I only have 1 fv with a tap and thats my secondary which means transferring it to my brewing bucket to bottle with a syphon :(

Think im gonna bottle it straight from batch priming it, thanks for all your input :)
