Well today I bought the following at a bootsale for the grand total of £1. I was expecting it not to work but to my surprise it does, so after a quick clean up I am now the proud owner of a baby burco in a lovely shade of white a blue.

My question is, would this be suitable for biab? I also picked up a box of home brew stuff for £5 which contained Muslim grain bags etc , so I was hoping to give all grain a go. I think this burco holds just over 7gals.

Thanks it advance

muslin! not muslim :p

looks great to me. 7 gallons will be enough for BIAB easily, you'll need to build a custom bag to hold that much grain.

good work! maybe you could do an extract beer to test it out and get your boil volumes etc written down :thumb:

go on give it a go ! Have you tried it on getting to and holding a good boil, certainly big enough for BIAB. WQhatever don't throw it away it will also make a good strike water boiler for your mash tun. When you go All Grain.....

Cleaned up well, and put a couple of gals in it and it boiled well, plug got hot but no problems at all with it. Label states it holds 7.5g

The muslin bags that came in another box of stuff I bought are very big, but I have no idea how much they would hold, I have two of them ,the old box contains loads of boots stuff which should come in handy. I will get some photos up next weekend as I moved it all to my house that I'm not yet living in.

Really pleased with this purchase, I'm guessing I would need to find something to put in the bottom of the boiler so the grains don't touch the part that covers the heating elements, I was also thinking it may be a good idea to wrap it with some insulation as it may hold the heat better that way.

As for cooling I did see something that looked like a metal cool box/top loading fridge, looked like it would hold over 5 gals and plugged into the mains. I thought I'd try getting one of those and using it as a cooler rather than getting a copper coil to try and save on water.

Now all I need to do is read up on biab!!

Cheers all

You're too quick Rob! Thanks for your help, that will be my bedtime reading once I get home... Better not do it on the phone or I will end up posting questions about Muslims bags again
