Why? He was having fun with a kit he found at a yard sale, fair play to him for that. He also showed some sense in not following the instructions to the letter and bottling it after a week.

:hat: to him, from the comments it seems he went on to reuse the kit with fresh ingredients to some success.
 
but 15 years after its use by date, bit of common sense would say dont use them ingredients,
 
Depends, if the ingredients were in a tin that showed no signs of corrosion or damage then I can't see there would by much problem. If they were in a plastic baggy and had new life forms evolving in them, then yeah, that would be daft.

I've got a tin of John Bull beer somewhere in storage, I'll have to check the date on it when I can find it, and then make it up with some fresh yeast. :D
