Evening All,

I’m currently building my first AG set up and gathering all the bits and pieces together, etc. At the end of the day, however, it’s all about what I make with it and I’ve always promised myself ‘first runnings’ would be TTL.

Just to reaffirm this; I had to catch a train from Dewsbury station (not a million miles from TT brewery) a couple of weeks ago and ‘unfortunately missed my connection’ meaning I was ‘forced to seek refuge’ in the wonderful West Riding Refreshment Rooms on the station platform. TTL is a regular in this establishment and this last pint was even better than I remembered and perhaps more hoppy as well ? If I could achieve anything close to this I would be a happy man. :D

Back to the recipe, Wheeler’s book calls for :

Goldings
&
Styrian Goldings

Using the sponsor's links I can find hops described as :

Goldings
East Kent Goldings
Bobek ( Styrian Goldings )
Celeia ( Styrian Goldings )
Savinjski ( Styrian Goldings )

So, appreciating the style I’m trying to produce would anyone be good enough to make a suggestion as to what I should go for ?

Thanks in advance.

Savinjski are the closest I have found to the Styrian's of a few years back when they were all called Styrian goldings. EK goldings are from that area alone. If labelled just goldings they could be from Kent, Sussex or Worcestershire. Not a lot of difference, some will say there is none but I tend to prefer EK. You also have Whitbread goldings but find them a bit more harsh.

Cheers DK

For this first outing then I may just go for :

East Kent Goldings & Savinjski

Just need to get a friend of mine to come up with the Q Max cutters then I can start getting things together.

Thanks again.

I've only ever drunk a couple of bottles of TT.
However my GW brew is just coming on to drink ( brewed 18 October )
I did a comparison a few days ago and apart from sparkly clarity (which the bottled beer won by miles ) my brew tasted the same. and was very enjoyable
I used EKG and then 2 lots of Styrian ( Bobeck ) hops.
It came out at 4.2% and is destined to be a well liked brew.
Thoroughly recommend Graham Wheelers version, he got it spot on.
