S30 cylinder swapped and we are still holding pressure, the beer also generated done of its own overnight.
I just hope my James Herriot-esque retrieval of the nut from the bottom of the keg and the brief presence of oxygen hasn't killed the brew!!
I hope that you hadn't been giving a cow an internal examination beforehand :D still it might have added an interesting flavour and colour to the brew

The main problem with bottles is that they are an absolute pain to sterilise and fill and it adds at least an hour to the process

I know, but what's an hour for getting 40 pints of beer? I don't mind it, and remember you really don't need to sterilise them. It's a good idea to, but there's plenty of experience with not sterilising them without any problems.

Sympathise big time Kinley. Mine has been a nightmare so far. It's defo a pin valve tho if it's anything like my TT King Keg. I use little 8g gas bulbs which actually work really well and are only 3 or 4 quid for 10. Gas is the only problem I haven't had yet with my KK.

I'm brewing a dark ale right now which will be the last chance saloon for my KK. Also fitted a pressure gauge which is a fanstatic idea. I'll give the keg every chance and test it with just gas and then gas and water before putting this new brew in.
Hi Markus mine is the S30 valve that takes the bigger cylinder refills.
To be honest it was a duff cylinder not the keg, but its just another keg related problem.
Either way its sorted now and I'm sat with a ginger beer watching the rugby. :thumb:

I read this on another thread the other day (it may have been from you?).

Do many people really bottle without sterilisation? At the end of the day, they need a wash, so the sterilisation process isn't that much more work.

I tend to get two 33 ltr FVs, or with sterilisation fluid and the other with fresh water from the cold tap. I submerge 15 bottles in the sterilisation fluid for 10 mins, give them a quick plunge with a bottle brush, then plunge them into the cold water for 5 mins, then stick the on the bottle drier.

It doesn't take much work, just a bit of time.

Like I say, it is worth it for "the perfect pint"!

Okay, so I fitted a bolt-in pressure valve (I think they are intended for motorbikes - got 2 for 3 quid on ebay) and bought a pressure gauge on clearance sale from Halfords. I will post some pics later.

First of all I put 2 gas bulbs into an empty keg, sealed her up and took a reading. 2 psi. An hour later, no pressure!! Definite leak. Tried again with 1 gas bulb and only just tightened the lid. Like literally tightened it about as much as a 4 year old could probably manage. Left it overnight and the gas stayed in there.

So I think overtightening the lid was my issue and it goes on the growing list of things to be careful of with my KK. Think you may haven mentioned that as a problem you had in another thread Kinleycat?

Over tightening is always "up there" with reasons for not getting a seal. At least you've got to the bottom of it :)

This is about the third time I've gotten to the bottom of a KK problem.

This is the little valve.

And the modified lid with pressure gauge.

Fingers crossed.
