I have to ask one question though. Why are you getting it made in China and not the UK? It might be worth going to a small local fabricators and asking them how much it would be to knock a sample up for you. If you do the design work it can work out pretty cheap and if you can put an order in for 50 then you have a good haggling position. You can then also go back to them when you have designed some concials. They should also be able to weld some pipe stubs onto the bottom for the drain so that there is no chance that it can leak from there and it will mean zero deadspace if used with a false bottom. My experience with chinese made products is not very good. At least if they are local you can go and see them. Also saves a lot of hassle with regards shipping and customs. You also save some money by clever design as the outside does not have to be welded as it is not coming into contact with the liquid and could be rivetted instead.

Any progress on this idea Titch?

I think it's a great plan. I'm tempted to order from Nordik, and would probably be capable of mod-ing the pots to add a tap etc. But if I was able to buy it ready done for a little extra then I would definately go for it!

There's probably a good business as a supplier of shiny to the homebrew community. Wonder if you could find a manufacturer to knock up some cornies for super cheap too...

sparge i have beendiscussing it with the factory, and i have a sample price etc and prices on stock pots with holes already punched through for kettle elements etc

now the question i have is what sizes to ship in

i can getr a sample air freight but then the main order would be approx 8 weeks on the water not allowing for time to make

but i was thinking of getting a couple of sets air freight

say a 70L stock pot 50L thermos anda 70L stock pot
and a 100L set aswell but thermos would be 60L

LMK what you think and ill make it happen if people want it too

not sure if they do it ill check

they stopped making the 80L thermos but will make to special order based on qty

I think the 70 / 50 / 70 option would work best for me. Any bigger and, well thats just too much beer  (at least currently!)

Though I guess what you go for will depend on what sizes are more likely to sell. Whether its going to be people upgrading existing 10g setups for something nice and shiny or whether they are after increased capacity too...

right i have checked yeah they do the 70L thermos ;)

also they do a 150L stock pot

so looks like a sample order will be going in

then i will have to negotiate shipping cost etc, these Chinese keep changing the goal posts

Dont let them start that game mate or you will get a right run around ! Try going cold on them for a week and ignoring their e mails , in my experience they come back with a changed attitude . And if they dont ? Well , china is a big country with hot competition for even small exports . My experience of the situation .

lol shocker i went cold on them for 2 days and the email i got back was funny

she wanted to please me ;)

everything is cool so far, just the ex works shes now gone back on it and said once qtys are know we can work it out

cheers for advice fella

Titch , I reckon you have at least as much or more experience than me with east/west trade so please - dont think I presume to advise you, mate , just an observation ! You seem to be doing fine without needing any advice ! :thumb:

So she "wanted to please you" ?  thats classic ! Have you noticed that all the contacts seem to be women with western names and photos of a nubile and attractive young lady ? I cannot help but think they are aged , moustachiod harridans in reality ! However , I make a note of always complementing them on their english - after all , its better than my (non existant) chinese ! That and asking them about themselves and their work and the weather and so on . It may seem a little callous to try to get a negotiating advantage that way , but its no different to the "lovely young thing" photos , really ;)
