i have secured a manufacturing plant that is willing to custom make these pots

40L,50L,60L versions of the pots you love

will have a built in bottom drain and a pipe fully enclosed with insulation and a 2cm pipe protruding out of the bottom with a screw thread to attach a tap directly too

if i said i could get these for around the same price as you pay France and shipped from within the UK would there be interest?

im waiting on stock pot prices
but they have asked the following questions of me

1.the thickness
2.the material(with magnetic or non-magnetic)

please help in the market research as im looking at getting sample air freighted in if enough interest

then i can place an order

BTW before anyone asks i have asked permission to do this market research first

i await your answers

100l thermo pots would be nice for boilers as per alemans picobrewery no need to insulate then. plus an 80l mash tun.

First thing I'd say is be very wary of doing anything without visiting the plant. There are loads of manufacturing places in China that could make them, but probably very few that can make them to a good level. The Catering pots from France suffer from poor stainless, impurities in the metal that start to rust over time.

They won't be able to give you a price until you've stated the metal and it's thickness.
For the pots a 300 series ss would be best, which would be non metallic (not technically true but good enough for this reply).

noted thanks fella. I have a couple of contacts in China. so going to see if I can get them to visit.
get a few samples in.

I have had some business dealings with manufacturers in china myself over the last few years and its mainly been metal items . I dont know about you , Titch , but the problem some of my friends and I had (even when travelling out and dealing in person) was getting them to understand that we in the west are not WHOLLY motivated by price and price alone .

I can see why there is the impression out there that the west wants goods at the lowest possible price regardless of quality , and its a shame because when you DO convince them that you want Quality at the best price possible then they are capable of producing top notch stuff .

I have been trying to negotiate with a new (to me) supplier of heating devices for use in veg oil diesel vehicles and the reps of the company keep sending me copies of huge orders from various countries and impressing upon me the huge quantities they are able to produce per month . I am getting through to them but its a slow process . I hope it goes smoothly for you . You obviously know what you are up to though so this is most likely old news to you .

Another sticking point was currency - the people I have dealt with all seemed convinced that I would want to deal in USD . Once I got through that it was actually easier for me to deal in pounds they were fine about it . They thought that dealing in USD was an incentive for me . I shouldnt think they will touch Euros now though !

If its going to be that big a venture I would seriously consider going out there , though , and not just for a tour of Yiwu City either ;)

I think I would much rather build my own as I have most of the tools, also thats half the fun :D Also I would want it done right. Who do i go to if I want a refund? If the pots knackered I can allways send it back to catering-fr....

Perhaps offer to some of the homebrew shops... ?
What sort of order volumes are you looking at?
Turn around times?

darcey at the moment I am looking to get these with a view to start a business. as you say offer to homebrew shops.
maybe sponsor the forum.
I was not thinking of a group buy sorry for misleading .
but I reckon I could get it to end user for about the same money as bare pots possible a couple of quid more.
so no tools to buy and no work.

i must add to obviously protect the forum and the sponsors, i am not touting for trade
just thoughts if the pots would be a potential winner and something that is wanted

i currently have no job and need to do something with my time

so i either start a business or continue to look for work of which there seems to be plenty of ads but no interviews

Nice to meet you this afternoon Gareth :thumb:

As I said I would be interested in the pots.

I have a friend in Beijing who deals in communicating between western and Chinese companies if its of any use I can get you their details?

I think if you got in good quality pots with that initial work removed for people ( you might also want to think about being able to provide with drilled holes for elements etc for the 'stock pots' ) then you'll do well out of it :thumb:

Supplied with just that pipe and maybe some holes, even those who like to build still get to make most of it. It just removes the cutting and working in stainless - saving on tooling costs, you would surely be onto a winner :thumb:

Good luck with it !!! - as people are saying I think quality will be your key bit to get right, but then you are competing mainly against the Nordic pots, and they are not all that ( well mine aren't )

Grays good to meet you aswell

robsan thanks for the offer

hawks yes it has crossed my mind.

now i just need to confirm the stainless grade of the french pots

I have been looking at some of the chinese and turkish manufacturers and they seem to be stating 1.2 - 1.8mm thickness of each skin on bases and 0.8 - 1.2mm sides . Some are listing "3 ply stainless" but I dont follow that at all , you may do . I dont know how this compares with the french product ..... :hmm:

Work on ocean freight pricing too. I think if users were interested they would be just as happy to save a fair amount in the freight costs with a rough 15 to 20 day difference, just a though as the difference can be massive.

Nice idea tho, just wish I knew what pots I wanted, still new to the brewing game.

Is it just the pots you're interested in doing Titch? Just that when I built my kegerator I found that there was a dearth of companies in this country supplying the taps etc to make them with, I thought to myself at the time that someone could make a few quid importing the taps from China... I also came across a few companies over there who made various types of keg which may be of interest to us homebrewers.

LOL you lot need to behave, before you know it ill have a 40ft container full not a 20ft or shared container

just going to get a final price and samples for these

funny thing is i emailed germany aka nordic to see what stainless they used in there pots and they did not know

maybe they used the cheaper 201 hence the rusting problems

makes you wonder
