I've used the search function and either it's just not there or I've used the wrong terms. Here's my question:

How do I fit a sight glass to a thermopot? I'd also like a bit of advice on how to fit a temp probe to the pot, maybe joined to the sight glass? What's the t joint called?

A T is just it ..

while the bes.co.uk site is a nightmare if u dont know what your looking for, they will send u on request a free paper catalouge which is much easier to browse and jigsaw bits together from descriptions and diagrams :)

sorry to rain on your parade, but a sightglass on a tun?? why?? there are a few down sides, - its going to show the grain + water volume which isnt much use, its a possible source of temp loss, and difficulty cleaning spring to mind. its easier to mount a sightglass on a single walled hlt and measure the water going into the tun imho.

Fil...have you thought the thermo pot might be the HLT, they are a good way to conserve energy independent of use
dj, I'm sure I've seen this done on the forum but can't remember where  The twin skin makes it awkward but it's not impossible, I'm sure someone will be able to point to he link I'm thinking of :hmm:

EDIT, Northern Brewer did a sight glass on a tb, see here :thumb:

it's for my mash tun. so is a sight glass really needed?

I stil haven't decided on whether I will use three thermopots or just one for the mash tun and the other two will just be stock pots.

In that case, I share Fils opinion, I don't see the need for a mash tun. They can be used, it's not a problem, personal preference at the end of the day, if you want one, fit one :thumb:

No, you don't need a sight glass on your mash tun.

Using a tp as a boiler makes it harder to fit everything being double skinned and, when it comes to cooling your wort it will retain more heat. That of course depends on what method you will use to chill, I can only see it affecting an immersion chiller. How much it will affect it I don't know. The pros of using one for the boiler they will reach the boil quicker and you will not burn your hand it you touch the outside of it.

Personally though, I think I would have a TP for the mash tun and stockpots for the HLT & boiler. I would insulate them both with some shiney bubble wrap stuff

Ok I will go with the 2 stock pots and one thermopot.
I am using plate chiller to cool.

time to get a quote for two stock pots then.
