Nice work Joe and really useful pics. I've been looking at those thermo pots too and wondering on a quick conversion so it's very helpful to see this.
With regards to the false bottom could you (maybe further write up of what you've done?) and others comment on what I was planning to do? I'm mainly a cider and sparkling wines brewer but having done some beer kits now I'm very keen to start brewing with grain and am putting together my equipment bit bit :thumb:
Here goes then. After installing the ball valve as described above I was planning to place a barbed hose tail on the 1/2" thread inside the pot. From this suppler:

I was then going to buy a false bottom from forum sponsors (Joe can you tell me the internal diameter of the 38.5 thermo pot?) and use some platinum cured tubing to connect to the ball valve:

My local stainless steel fabricators are then going to drill a hole in the lid to allow this sparge arm to be installed:

I was then planning to solder two short lengths of 15mm copper pipe into an elbow and install this into the outflow end of the compression fitting on the ball valve.
Voila! Time to get brewing! Maybe? :?
Does that all sound logical? I'm just starting out on this so I hope that kind of makes sense.
The other thing running through my head is how much dead space does this give? The tap doesn't look to be mounted to high but I can't see how high or have any dimensions. Second, the false bottom looks like it has a brass elbow and I noticed that there were posting on the forum about lead being precipitated. Is this an issue. The only thing I can think to do is to replace the elbow with a stainless one, if it is a problem?
Thanks in advance of comments and help and Joe I hope you don't mind me chipping in on your thread. Has the conversion now been put to use?
Cheers
