The sun is out and distancing is no longer important.

A major incident has been declared in Bournemouth after thousands of people flocked to the Dorset coast on the second day of the UK heatwave.

Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole Council said it was "stretched to the absolute hilt".

Dorset Police has urged people to stay away from the resort and other beaches in the county.

There have been reports of traffic gridlock, anti-social behaviour, fights and overnight camping.

Earlier people were urged to "act responsibly" as temperatures hit the mid-20s.

By mid-morning Bournemouth beach was busy "as far as the eye can see" and the Durdle Door car park was approaching capacity.

Traffic built up early on coast-bound roads and with people having travelled to Bournemouth from as far as Birmingham.

Council leader Vikki Slade said: "We are absolutely appalled at the scenes witnessed on our beaches, particularly at Bournemouth and Sandbanks, in the last 24-48 hours.

"The irresponsible behaviour and actions of so many people is just shocking and our services are stretched to the absolute hilt trying to keep everyone safe. We have had no choice now but to declare a major incident and initiate an emergency response."

Assistant Ch Con Sam de Reya, of Dorset Police, said people should stay away from beaches in these "unprecedented times".

"We are also reliant on people taking personal responsibility and strongly advise members of the public to think twice before heading to the area."

"Clearly we are still in a public health crisis and such a significant volume of people heading to one area places a further strain on emergency services resources," he said.

Have you seen the state they left the beach in yesterday. We've got a nation of morons.

Thats going to screw the metal detectors up big style.

Joking aside do you expect any better from morons who think its acceptable to ignore distancing just because its a hot day.

Words fail me, Chippy. That guy in the first video seemed to think it was "their" beach, and what are other infected grockles doing infesting it? This is my old stamping ground and I know exactly what it's like.
But, when all's said and done and the beach has been swept, they're all good and honest people by their own lights. Not an ounce of malice in any of them. So what is it they don't get, or are they right? Fucket and live for the moment, sort of people?
Glad I left though. The parking must be horrendous.

Pigs the lot of them! I seen interviews aswell of people they are just dumb they don't get it.

Although I have to say the BLM protests were far from clever how they packed in like that too.. SO far things haven;t spiked up too much as a result.

Meanwhile up in Scotland, despite initially being 2 weeks behind the rest of the U.K. we now have the lowest R number “on the island”.

To me the difference is that, up here, the thick and impressionable blindly follow Sturgeon who has been very cautious and straight about lockdown rules. Her advisor who broke the rules left post within 24 hours (although Sturgeon did publicly say she didn’t want her to go).

In England, the thick and impressionable blindly follow Boris, who has been very unclear in his briefings, hasn’t attended a COBRA meeting for weeks, and insists that his adviser who broke the rules did nothing wrong and has let him stay on.

Having said that, my wife had to pick something up from Boots yesterday and said that Broughty Ferry was mobbed and nobody was social distancing so maybe we have an increase coming too.

They clean the beach with some sort of tractor trailer set up but they were reports yesterday of the morons burying the bottles in the sand

Tbh I think idiots are going to be Idiots.. I have no oar in the polticial aspect but whilst alot of people will blame Boris for people being on the beach I personally think thats ludicrious and people would have gone no matter who was in power.

I agree we've had raves, camping and now it's piling onto a beach to catch the sun how could any government stop this, I see the latest thing is police bashing was it 24 that got hurt yesterday will it be mass riots next.

Usual minority screwing things up for everyone else. I can see the next spike in a few weeks and any chance we had of a holiday will be canned. Booked to take our caravan to Cornwall (before this all kicked off) at the end of July, I'm almost wanting us to go back into lock down and it get cancelled because if the beaches are anything like that we won't be going near them and it will be a bit of a wasted holiday.

Tbf we havent seen too much consequences from the non social distancing of BLM protests so hopefully it will continue in spite of idiocy.

And to make matters even worse... (pulled off the Guardian blog)

Three men stabbed at Bournemouth beach
Three men were stabbed at the popular holiday resort hours after a major incident was declared when thousands of sunseekers flocked to beaches amid the heatwave.
The men, all in their 20s and from London, were hurt during a fight near the amusements on Bournemouth pier on Thursday evening.
The three men were taken to hospital for treatment by the ambulance service.
Dorset Police said one man sustained a stab wound to his back and has since been discharged from hospital.
A second man sustained an injury to his face and the third was injured in the chest and arm.
Their conditions are not described as life-threatening.
Detective inspector Gavin House, who is leading the investigation, said:
We are carrying out a full and thorough investigation to determine who was responsible for this incident.
The public can expect to see an increased police presence near to the pier today as detectives continue their inquiries in the area.
I understand there was a large number of people on the beach at the time of the incident and I would urge anyone who may have important information to assist my investigation to please get in touch.
I am keen to hear from anyone who may have video footage of the incident and would please ask that you do not post or share this online out of respect for the injured people.
