Fifa in 'advanced talks' over suspending Russia
Fifa is in advanced talks over the full suspension of Russia until further notice, according to BBC sports editor Dan Roan.
The global football governing body is understood to be working closely with its European counterpart Uefa and an announcement is expected later today.
It would mean Russia would not be able to play at the women's Euro 2022 in England in the summer and Poland will get a bye in the World Cup qualifier play-off next month - a match that Poland's FA has said it will boycott.
Iceland has also said it will refuse to play against Russia in June, and the International Olympic Committee has recommended that athletes from Russia and Belarus be banned from competitions.

Why has it taken this long? All Russian teams should have been suspended fom all competitions on the morning of the invasion.

Great isn't it they spat the dummy and made a big song and dance when a few teams suggested a breakaway league but Russia invades a country and all the spineless ***** would do is not let them fly the flag and call themselves Russia.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich says he is planning to sell the club.

In a statement on the Premier League club's website, businessman Abramovich said it was an "incredibly difficult decision to make", which "pains" him.
The Russian will not ask "for any loans to be repaid" and proceeds of the sale will be donated to war victims.

On Saturday, Abramovich said he would give "stewardship and care" of Chelsea to its foundation trustees following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

That led to speculation he would put the club up for sale and earlier on Wednesday, billionaire Hansjorg Wyss told Swiss newspaper Blick he had been offered the chance to buy the west London club.

Wyss said Abramovich wanted "to get rid of Chelsea quickly" after the threat of sanctions was raised in Parliament.

Abramovich, 55, is alleged to have strong ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, which he has denied.

He says "all net proceeds from the sale" will be donated to the "victims of the war in Ukraine".

In his statement, Abramovich added: "I have always taken decisions with the club's best interest at heart.

"In the current situation, I have therefore taken the decision to sell the club, as I believe this is in the best interest of the club, the fans, the employees, as well as the club's sponsors and partners.

"The sale of the club will not be fast-tracked but will follow due process. I will not be asking for any loans to be repaid.

"I have instructed my team to set up a charitable foundation where all net proceeds from the sale will be donated. The foundation will be for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine."

The Premier League has disqualified Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich as a director of the club after the oligarch was sanctioned by the UK government.

Abramovich had his British assets - including Chelsea - frozen on Thursday as part of the government's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The move put the Russian's prospective sale of the club on hold.

The Premier League said Abramovich's disqualification would "not impact on the club's ability to train and play".

Removing an owner from a board would usually trigger the sale of the shares, a process that Abramovich had instigated on 2 March after after the threat of sanctions was raised in Parliament.

He had instructed American investment firm Raine Group to seek £3bn for the club, but finance experts believe that price could drop given the current uncertainty around Chelsea.

Raine Group temporarily halted the sale process on Thursday while answers were sought from the government about the implications of the sanctions.

The government is open to considering an addition to the special licence it granted the club that would allow a sale to go ahead.

A condition for that to happen, however, would be that Abramovich - one of Russia's richest people and believed to be close to the country's president, Vladimir Putin - receives none of the proceeds.

The special licence granted by the government will allow fixtures to be fulfilled, staff to be paid and existing ticket-holders to attend matches.

Chelsea, however, cannot receive money for match tickets which have not already been sold, future gate receipts for FA Cup games or money from merchandise sold via the club shop.

The European champions will also be unable to buy or sell players, or offer new contracts, while the sanctions are in place on Abramovich and he still owns the club.

An amendment to the licence has been granted by the government, allowing Chelsea to spend up to £900,000 on costs for home games, up from the £500,000 set on Thursday.

The allowable away costs of travel, however, remain at £20,000 per game.

A statement from the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) select committee confirming the changes to the licence also welcomed the league's move to disqualify Abramovich as a club director.

"The government has made clear that we need to hold to account those who have enabled the Putin regime," the DCMS statement said.

Simon Stone, BBC Sport football reporter

The unravelling of Roman Abramovich's time as Chelsea owner is happening at rapid pace.

It is only 28 days since Abramovich celebrated on the pitch with manager Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea became world club champions.

Now, the club is up for sale and Abramovich is becoming a non-person within the Premier League.

He wasn't involved in the sale of the club even before this latest development but it does underline the need for a deal to be done pretty quickly.

The name of the man who changed Chelsea's fortunes may still be revered by some of the club's supporters but it is clear his association with Vladimir Putin is creating serious issues at Stamford Bridge.

A sale cannot come soon enough.

They announced this on 5 live earlier the experts were saying he is going to struggle as his style of play will not suit most of the players who are there now and the others were saying he deserves a medal for accepting the job, united fans were strangely quiet probably sat on their phones googling "Who is Erik ten Hag" & "what has he won"

Erik ten Hag: Manchester United appoint Ajax coach as next manager

Ten Hag was the unanimous choice of senior figures at Old Trafford after what is being said was a rigorous recruitment process, led by football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher, with new chief executive Richard Arnold engaged for the final stages.

The belief at United is that Ten Hag was the candidate most closely aligned to the club's identity and strategy.

Ten Hag is viewed as being a proven winner who likes to play an attractive, attacking style of football, with a commitment to youth.

It is felt he improves players and develops teams, and within the negotiation process he set out his long-term vision to build a successful team.

Interesting Football Fact

Last weekends FA cup semi final at Wembley between Man C and Liverpool, the best two teams in England and arguably in the world, had an attendance of 73,000.
The Championship play off final in 2014 between QPR and Derby County at Wembley had an attendance of 87,000.

I am surprised they got that many, as it says below this could have been avoided if they had switched the game to a neutral ground, Wembley used to be a special place its now a ******* joke.

Not only have fans faced major travel problems in terms of getting to London for the FA Cup semi-final, but there will also be issues on the Underground.

Throughout the entire Easter weekend, there are no direct trains to London from either Liverpool or Manchester, leaving fans facing a logistical nightmare.

Many have been forced to book accommodation in the capital in the absence of a return train, while others will head to London via the motorway or even expensive flights.

The FA have provided 100 free return coaches for the two clubs, however this only covers around 5,000 fans.

It is a situation that could have been avoided, with the FA aware of the situation months in advance, and it led to calls for the semi-final between Liverpool and Man City to be moved to a more suitable neutral venue.

The game is to be ahead as planned, though, with only the kickoff time considered to help supporters, with an earlier start of 3.30pm designed to allow fans enough time to head back north.

However, fans travelling through London will now be required to factor in disruption to the Underground, with the Metropolitan line, which serves Wembley Park station, to undergo a “detailed inspection” following faults to a train.

As reported by the BBC, the TFL have advised fans to “check before they travel and consider alternative lines.”

Wembley Park is the closest tube station to the stadium, with the walk from the Tube to Wembley an iconic one for fans travelling for marquee ties.

The station can still be reached via the Metropolitan and Jubilee lines, but supporters choosing to do so could expect busy trains and delays.

However, there is also the option of travelling to Wembley Central, which is a 21-minute walk from the stadium and accessible via the Bakerloo line along with the London Overground.

Other stations nearby include North Wembley and Stonebridge Park, which are both on the Bakerloo line.

Train tickets are being accepted on both London Buses and Chiltern Railways, the latter of which serves the Wembley Stadium station with regular trains arriving from Marylebone.

Full travel information for reaching Wembley can be found on the stadium’s website.

The problem is Club Wembley. The middle ring of seats in the stadium. People have paid for seats or corporate boxes there, which includes all the England games and FA Cup semis and final. But they don’t turn up for the semis (or many England games).

The play offs aren’t included, so those tickets go on general sale and most of them sell.

The problem at that club isn’t the first team coach. It’s that there’s no joined up thinking between areas. They need to figure out what system they want to play and then recruit the right players for it.

For example, Pogba is an amazing attacking talent, but he doesn’t tend to defend (aside from whether he’s not trying, he’s just plain bad at it). For France he has Kante next to him who can do the work of two defensive midfielder, letting Pogba get on with causing problems up the field.

So what do they do… bring in Ronaldo, who does even less defensive work in a league where defending from the front is becoming ever more important.

Which leaves Fernandes having to pick up the pieces defensively and entirely nullifying his threat.

Look at most of the teams around them and they all have a way of playing and have recruited for it (except Spurs maybe, who’s first second and third plan seems to be Harry Kane). Even Arsenal - they’re not great but they’re working to a plan with a really young team and not spending a billion quid to get there.

Could Everton do City a favour today, the match sounds fairly even the pundits are saying where have Everton been all season.

Having watched tonight's match, even as a Livepool fan, I was sorry to see Man City lose. Man City are the better team, but Real Madrid are more versed in the dark arts. Lets hope for a better ref than tonight in the final.

We should have buried them in the first leg we had plenty of chances but didn't take them and it cost us, we were brilliant in the first half and I was sure we could hold on I didn't see the second as I had to go out and it all went **** up, oh well close but no cigar again.

I think I know the exact moment City where going to lose. When sky sports claim they are in the final at 73 minutes!

Sad day all round for Man City Fans, I did watch the game and missed the first home leg strange how a team can come back from the dead like that. in a way it's what make football so appealing to people Ok I was a Neutral last night but was hoping for a City Win . Not a betting man but what sort of odds you would have got for that outcome say 80 minutes from time with in play betting I wonder !

My team tonight against all the odds clapa :beer1:
