I put out a box by my local village hall recycling containers. I put it out this morning and went to look this evening to see if anybody had put anything in it and it had gone! :x

It was a really good box aswell.
SO here come my question. What sort of thing do you guys use (that have done this) to collect the bottles in?
I need to fin something sturdy enough to withstand the rain and the wind but crappy enough to not be of interest to anybody.

My faith in humanity is at a low at the moment. :(

actually while posting this i did think about that so im going to check back in the day light tommorrow,
We shall see. :thumb:

A supermarket " bag for life " is a good idea escpecialy if you put a few holes in bottom to let rain out and to deter folks from walking off with it.

Oh that is quite a good idea. I'm going to try that. I might have to put a brick or stone in the bottom to stop it flying away.
Thanks

Have you thought about asking at your local pub B, they're normally only too happy to give bottles away, saves them paying to recycle them.

Yes I have vossy. I went to my two locals and one said they didn't have any and the other just gave me one bud bottle and 2 j2o bottle. I do have another place in mind but the first two were dead ends. This method gave me around 40 bottles in a week and then strangely enough none after that which was strange. I look in the recycling containers at all the glass bottles and i think if inky I could get in there. :hmm:

Have you seen the price of plastic boxes recently  I am always happy when a freebie decent box comes my way

So maybe someone didn't 'steal' it but thought it would be better recycled by themselves rather than by the recycling bods (as they might have assumed it was put out for recycling not bottle collecting) ?

Yeh I know the price of them that's why I'm annoyed but it eben had a sign on it so they definitely took it. Still onwards and upwards

Try a few different pubs mate. I only use 3 out of probably 25 local pubs and can get 40 pint bottles easily in one go. The hardest part is finding the pubs that sell pint bottles.
Most of my collection are a cider bottle thats brown and the label drops off at the sight of water.

Thanks for the tip Dan. I know a lot of people do this. I have now gone on a quest for bottles and have emailed all the pubs in the surrounding areas. Ill see what turns up tomorrow.

Like others I used 2 local pubs. With their permission I would take a pair of pliers to open their bin an fill a rucksack with all the cider bottles I could. Then just close the lid and lock. It's a win for everyone.

O also use council recycling bins for wine and champagne bottles. Pun always have screw tops and I just love to pull a cork.

Once you find out which sell a lot of bottles, ask when the empty day is so you can go the day before. And after the first time they usually don't mind you just going and helping yourself.

Oh to live in a country not ruined by idiots...

Over here the majority of pubs look at you with suspicion when you tell them you want to raid their bottle bins, thanks to the violently vocal minority who like to chuck petrol bombs at anyone who dares to be slightly different from them. I have to rely on recycling my own bottles, which means occasional trips to Sainsburys to see what they have. £2 is pricey for a bottle, but at least you get a free sample of beer with it.
