Just bought a TC-10 temperature controller from Forttex

Review coming soon - as are details as to whether it can be hardware hacked to do PID control (plus beefing up the heating circuit)

I've already got one, and as a replacement thermostat for controlling a fridge freezer, it does the job just perfectly . . . . It would also make an ideal thermostat for Fermentation control.

You can switch it between Heating Only, Cooling only or Heating/ cooling which is ideal for winter when you just want heating, summer when you just want cooling and spring/autumn when you might want both.

Its a doddle to wire up, and I love the built in (and adjustable) delay for the compressor something my controller didn't have.

considerably smaller than an ATC. The temp difference was due to me just dropping the ATC probe into the Kegereezer rather than placing it with the TC10 Probe, and it is still equilibrating.

The other bonus with the TC10 is that Paul can supply custom housings

Anyone want to buy an ATC 800?

Well I have it now on my desk.

I'm not convinced about the accuracy "out of the box". All my lab equipment disagrees with it. I know this can be changed with the calibration feature, but owing to the properties of an NTC thermistor I still wouldn't be convinced - it would need at least a two point calibration.

But as I'm only using it to control fermentation temperature I'm not too bothered.

It's cute though.

No chance of any realistic hardware hacking. I was hoping it would use a common processor (PIC or AVR), but the processor on it is older than flares.

Pictures of my chamber will be forthcoming when I've got the rest of the bits to convert it.

Out of interest JB, what are they using? :hmm:

And just as cool? Will be interested in following how you set this up James as I'm intending on doing something like this one glorious day.

12C54

It's either a really old PIC, or a ST microelectronics part. Either way, I just can't find any information on it.

EDIT: It's not a PIC, I can see the STC part now.

I really shouldn't be unsoldering bits should I? :geek: I've worked out how to increase the brightness, assuming the PSU can handle a few extra mA. I'm not going to bother though, it's fine for me.

Yep, looks like STC12C54xx - no datasheet though - looks like a nogo.

Is it QFP? - Perhaps you could find a PIC with a suitable footprint and simply replace it :thumb:

You've got me curious now - I wonder what is in my xmt7100

It's SOIC.

The only datasheets I can find are in chinese.

I don't think I can be bothered anymore.

It would be such a simple unit to design and build though.

Do you mean paul at BarleyBottom?
How much do you want for the ATC800 Aleman?

Hello all i am about to order a TC-10 controller but i alway's like to have a spare probe when buying a controller. The only probes i see is ones for the ATC-800 do these probes work the TC-10 :?: .Cheers

ATC probes are not compatible withthe TC-10 . . . Drop Paul a line at Fortext, and ask about a spare probe, they are really helpful, and IIRC you can get SS probes instead of the plastic ones . . . Pauls happy to swap them out . . . The Plastic ones are really for Marine fishkeepers, as even the stainless ones rust.

so what the difference between the atc800 and the tc10? do they do the same job but more compact or is it an upgrade?

Cheers Aleman I will give him an email /aeddon the ATC-800s are a great controller but they don't go any lower than 5oc. :thumb:

I knocked a similar setup together myself (but with tubular heater as well) and am still amazed at just how good it is!
It lives in the garage so needs both heating and cooling depending on the time of year and whether I'm using it for fermentation or for chilling.
Sorry about the mess in the photos as well - my garage was going through a "transitional phase" at the time! :D

Hello all i am waiting for my boxed TC-10 to arrive from FORTTEX i have everything wired up waiting on them to arrive. I am going back offshore soon so want to try to get it fitted so as i can brew when i get home. Can some one tell me the measurments of the TC-10 box supplied by FORTTEX so i can get ready. cheers
