Morning all, iv got one of these starter kits for christmas, basically with a bag of ingrediants already mixed up, a bag of sugar and a small sacet of yeast. I kno this probably sounds garbage to everyone but I dont want to run before walking.
I was wondering if using tap water to brew was ok? Or use bottled. My tap water is soft and tastes pretty decent in my opinion.
Im sure ill have a thousand more questions as I get into it more but this is my first. Many thanks!

If it tastes ok, it will probably be fine. Lots of folk (me included) add half a campden tablet to 23 litres of tap water (it neutralises chloramines). Or you could get Ashbeck bottled water from a supermarket (just over a quid for 5 litres).

I think the London burghs sometimes have issues with theit water chemistry.

I've not had any issues using the Edinburgh tap water and I think the general consensus is tap water is ok for most kits. As you start wanting more control you can see if bottled water makes a difference to you.

Most important thing (after cleaning and sterilising your kit) is that YOU enjoy what YOU brewed.

Yes tap water is fine, mine is soft and works great. But do add a little bit of a campden tablet, crushed, to the water, it removes chloramines and will make a difference. With hardly any effort. Wilko sells them. And home brewing shops.

For beer kits, you want to use a close to distiller water as possible, as the brewers who make the kits have already treated the water they used to make it.

Soft tap water is absolutely fine. Otherwise use bottled water as suggested.

My tap water has a definite clhorine smell especially first thing in the morning , I just add a campden tab and keep on brewing

Thank you for the replys, much appreciated. Iv used tap water and put half a tablet in aswell so we'll see how this goes!
