Can somebody please advise on what is the best way forward. I have recently acquired another electric boiler/mash tun but it has no tap. It looks like it is made from some sort of metal coated in enamel like stuff. The hole for the tap is 17mm in diameter (but i could drill this out if needs be). Which is the best sort of tap to get for this and how would i go about fitting it and sealing it?

I have seen the plastic taps you can fit onto fermenters in my LHBS but i am not sure how much to trust them especially with hot wort. Ideally I would like a metal tap that I could attach some hose onto and fit a hop strainer of some sort in the back.

You have to be very careful with enamel as it will crack and chip easy. You will need a 22mm hole to fit a tank connector, I took out the dia of the hole with a round stone fitted to my drill...nice and slow.

If you can get hold of the one on the left of the photo you'll find that 15mm pipe is a push fit easy to take off to clean.

This is what I did to my HLT here.

Hey presto one new tap..

Thanks DJ. What would I call the fittings though? I've had a look on the screwfix website but it all looks very similar to me and I still don't know which parts to order.

You need a 15 mm Tank connector, like THIS but go to your local plumber shop it should be cheaper. This looks like the type I used and a !5 mm pipe should push fit into the left side of the fitting.
