While not our dog we were very attached to the dog that belonged to the owner of the property we live on. Bubba was an energetic mastiff with a sweet kind nature that was easy to love. We made sure he was fed and petted. He was outside late last night, got off the property, was hit by a car and killed. We've been crying off and on most of the day.

Losing a dog is as bad as losing a family member. I dream about our last dog, still makes me sad to look at his chair where he would sit and look out of the window.

When you lose a dog you do lose a family member.
True, that was in my post, a dog is the most loyal of pets. That is reciprocated by the owner. And it doesn't matter how long you have owned them, whether it be a snake bite at 2 years old or at 14 years old they are equally missed.

We had to give our last dog (spanial) away to a shelter a few years ago as out work pattern changed and it wasn't fair on the dog, it was one of the saddest days of our lives fortunitly the shelter already had a couple waiting for a spaniel and they brought the couple to the house so we could have a chat, we were happy for them to take her but it was horrible seeing her go (if that makes sense)

It does. A little while before we got married my wife had to rehome her springer spanial. She had the new prespective owner come over to visit and Sharmin took right to him so it worked out well.

It’s absolutely heartbreakin, losing dogs.I feel your pain, I lost my best 2 friends within a month last year.
There are few things in life that make a grown man cry, losing dogs are one of them.

First one had kidney failure, 2nd one just gave up and probably died of broken heart. They never spent a day apart their whole lives....yep life ******g sux at times ☹
both buried next to each other in the garden.

Myself,my daughter stood with the vetinarian on new year's eve 2019 and broke our hearts as we knew wee Sparky who was a Cavapoo was surely going to pass with parvo and we only had him a few days and after leaving him in her capable hands got the sorry call we were dreading but expecting that he had passed.Six weeks later buddy comes along and what a live wire he's been as he's a Cockapoo.
Sadly New Year's Eve 2020 we stood to bury Snowflake who was a 7yr old dwarf lop eared rabbit who like her two sisters had grown massively by having the run of of our back garden which reduces there living years by increasing their quality of life as I had been told by the vet as caging them restricted their growth but now I'll have to mow the garden this year.
It's hard when you loose pets as they are part of your family.

I am desperate reading this. Jet my Lab cross if 17 years and almost 9 months old (he's in the Show us your Dog thread) and I know he has lived a full life / had a great innings and in truth he would probably be better off now if he just died peacefully.

In reality I know he wont as he has a heart like a lion - and the constitution of an Ox - but he has virtually no back legs left made worse by arthritis in his front left leg

The last year has been hard for him and for the 2 of us - and I am sure Neighbours and friends think we are mad choosing to be carers to such an oldie but in truth we cant give up & while ever he "plays" as he does and eats and drinks we will carry on.

However I cant imagine life without him and I cant EVER imagine taking him on a last journey. Yes devastated covers it pretty much - and thanks for reading. There are no easy answers I know
